David Luiz is the best centre-half in the Premier League on current form, according to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
The Brazilian defender spent three years at Stamford Bridge between 2011 and 2014 before joining Paris Saint-Germain for £50million.
Luiz had a reputation for making rash decisions in his first spell at Chelsea, and questions were raised when the club decided to bring him back to west London for £34m last summer.
But the 29-year-old has been a reliable and constant figure in Antonio Conte’s side this term, helping Chelsea move 10 points clear in the title race.
And club icon Lampard believes he is the best player in his position in England right now.
‘He’s matured, he was a very good player before [he left for PSG],’ Lampard said when asked about the Brazil international.
‘The criticism at that point was that he can make a mistake. Since he came back he’s shown real discipline and control on the ball.
‘His defensive work has been brilliant, he’s certainly improved and grown up as a man.
‘He’s probably the best centre-half in the league right now.
